How did I miss "Four Stories"?
So apparently there’s a snazzy literary series in Boston called Four Stories. Tonight, catch Susan Orlean and others at the Enormous Room in Central Sq.
The idea is to bring writers and readers, intellectuals and club-goers, friends and interested people together in a more upscale environment than a bookstore, to think, drink, eat, talk, laugh, hear stories, trade tales. It’s simple, amusing, thought-provoking, and free for entry.
Not a bad angle, although reading attendees tend to be self-selected out of a small circle of locals—I can’t see a person who went to the Enormous Room on Friday to hear a new DJ showing up the following Monday to hear Susan Orlean. Unless she’s spinning, which would be pretty awesome. Hm. . . .
Yeah, so there you go—instead of trying to draw a wider group of people to writers’ readings, send the writers into that wider group of people. DJ Franzen at Avalon! “Wow. Mr. Wolfe, you can really throw it down! Sign my stomach!” Check out the new Bravo reality show A Room of One’s Own, where hidden cameras track international sensation Orhan Pamuk as he writes his next novel—can Orhan finish chapter 3 despite America’s voting off a key character last week?”
Anyway, see you all at the Enormous Room tonight, and then later at the Middle East for The Sword show.
